Summer of Knit? Not quite.

I'm feeling a bit disappointed with myself for not accomplishing more knitting over the summer. Everywhere I look it seems that people have so many more FOs (Finished Objects) than I could even contemplate. I did finish two items this summer - my first pair of socks and Clapotis. However, I don't have pictures of either one.

I have decided that the time is long overdue to unveil the second surprise I was knitting. It's the Purl Scarf, from Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson.

Needles: US #15 Crystal Palace Bamboo
Yarn: 1 skein Manos Del Uruguay Color C (100% wool), 2 balls Plassard Flore Color 72 (75% kid mohair, 20% wool, 5% polyamide), and 1 ball Knit One Crochet Too Douceur et Soie Color 8318 (70% Baby Mohair, 30% silk)
Started: April 9, 2005
Finished: May 6, 2005

The stitches look slightly uneven in the pictures, which I think is a function of the Plassard Flore. Also, the Manos del Uruguay is a thick/thin yarn so it can give that impression as well. I love the way it turned out, so much so that I'm tempted to make one for me in the same colors. However, I've been planning one in oranges/reds, so I'll see how that works out. It's incredibly soft and the mix of colors really gives it a lovely depth to the shading. One thing I love about Last Minute Knitted Gifts is the use of color theory. It's someone I've not had much experience with, but especially in knitting I find myself drawn so much to color. Often I've picked a yarn based entirely on color. My favorite yarns tend to be varigated, hand-dyed yarns. At some point, I'm probably going to try my hand at hand-dyeing yarn, but I've simply got to finish more of my projects before I pick up another entirely new facet of this hobby.

The project was a gift for my MiL and I'm happy with it. It was also a very enjoyable project. :)

Of course, now I really need to finish Suprise #1...
